Yesh I am back from my Hanoi Trip. It is great to take a break for a short trip to see the world out there and to appreciate things in life. Overall the Hanoi trip is an enjoyable one except for the last day, our flight back to Singapore was suddenly cancelled (Jetstar). Frog and I had no other choices but to buy air tickets from other airline back to Singapore. Enough of the flight cancellation story, I will introduce in this blog post on what to eat in Hanoi? If you are at the streets in Hanoi, you can see a lot of vendors setting up their food stall along the street. The people will dine at the small table and chair by the road side.
I really love Vietnamese food as the dishes are always (most of the time) garnish with lots of spring onions or fried shallots. The food is not too oily and yet very tasty and flavorous. Below are some of the food that are worth trying when you are in Hanoi! Looking back those pictures make me hungry and I miss Hanoi Food!
Sticky Rice ( Xoi Yen) with egg
The sticky rice is a very popular dish in Hanoi.
You can actually add in other dishes like fried egg, minced beef, sausages, chicken toppings, chunks of braised pork or whole egg to go along with the sticky rice. The yellow paste on top of the sticky rice is actually mung bean paste.
Look at the generous garnish of fried shallot. They are really fresh , crunchy and goes well with the mung bean paste and sticky rice. The eating place is quite crowded with steady stream of people coming to eat the sticky rice. This dish is a must try when visit Hanoi. It is located in old quater road on Nguyen Huu Huan Street.

Dried rice noodles with fried pork
A very simple and yet tasty dish. Look at the amount of fried shallot! The rice noodle is very soft and chewy.

I am not a fan of coffee but frog is. He love the coffee in Hanoi and mentioned that the coffee is stronger as compare to Singapore. The coffee is much more fragrant too. Frog had a happy time sipping the coffee in Hanoi.
A small cup of strong brew coffee to keep Frog day happy.
Fried Beancurd with spring onions
I know fried beancurd is a simple and common dish which we can find it in Singapore too but the way they cook it in Hanoi is different. The bean curd is fried and cooked with spring onions and there are edible herbs at the side of the plate to go along with those bean curd. It is very delicious and refreshing and we had the above dish for 2 nights in Hanoi. Try this dish if you are herbs and spring onions lover! Yummy!
For Dish 4 and 5 we had ordered them in HighWay 4 Restaurants and Bars. They specialise in the local cuisine and also do serve western food. If you are interested in traditional Vietnamese liquors, they do sell them too. The ambience is great and the price is affordable too.
