Sol Tasca

Frog had brought the Groupon voucher 2 months ago $20 for $40 worth of food at SolTasca. We had not been to a Spanish Restaurant before and thought it could be worthwhile to give it a try for the Spanish food.

Spanish food is known for their finger food, appetisers or snacks known as Tapas. Tapas may be serve cold or hot. Paella is another dish that is very known for. It is the typical, rich rice dish from Valencia, located on the east Mediterranean coast of Spain.

Here are what we had ordered:

.

Spanish Omelette

Spanish Omelette

Seafood Aglio  Olio

Seafood Aglio  Olio

As you can see from the photos, the ingredients used were very fresh.

Homemade Onion Rings

The onion rings are very tasty even though without dipping in any sauce.

The ingredients are very fresh and the portion for the Tapas is more than enough for 2 people. Guess we had over ordered. Should have order 1 seafood Aglio olio instead and another type of Tapas to try. Both I and frog are actually very full after eating all of what we had ordered. Very filling and tasty!

The next time we will try their Paella. However, you need to wait for at least 30 to 40 mins for the Paella to be serve to you as the Paella are freshly prepared once the customer had ordered them.

Great place for chilling out too with the right ambience, drinks and finger food.

DOUBLE BAY AUSTRALIAN RESTAURANT & BAR – RAFFLES CITY

Always wanted to go to Double Bay Restaurant to try out their food and dessert. This austalian restaurant is famous for their quality fish and chips, homemade dessert and beer. The restaurant is located at Raffles City just opposite Raffles Hotel.  Good for chilling out with friends or some cosy gathering with your love ones.

Cosy contempary ambience plus great food!

Beer batter Sea Bass + Chips

Fresh fish that melts in your mouth! Yummy!

The fish and chips is not those usual kind that i had eaten as the fish that they used is really fresh ( not those frozen kind of fish fillet). Although the serving is quite small, i guess is the quality of food over quantity.

Banoffee Pie

English pastry based dessert made from bananas, cream and toffee, on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter. The bananas are caramelized with disgistive biscuit crust on the top layer of the bananas. I and frog had never tried this dessert before in Singapore and we are in love with this dessert.

Great combination of the ingredients used in the pie: Caramelized bananas + toffee + biscuit crust

The Banoffee pie taste not too sweet and you can add $2.o0 for a scoop of vanilia ice cream.

Nice presentation of the dessert too!

I and frog will definitely go back to try other food and dessert @ Double Bay. Really enjoy our dinner there !

Thank u frog for the lovely treat!

HAPPY VALENTINE DAY

This year Valentine Day fall on a Monday and i guess all of us will be either working or studying. Monday Blues… Thus weekend is a great time to celebrate this season of love and to spend quality time with your love ones. If you are still thinking on where you should bring your love ones for a nice, simple meal. I and frog had found some restuarant at B1 of Central Clarke Quay that is not too crowded and the price is reasonable too.

Frog had brought me to Fine Cuts to have our Valentine Day Dinner. The restuarant is located at the basement of Central Clarke Quay.

They had set dinner menu for 2 people consisting of soup of the day, any main dish (Beef or pork) and lemonade drink. The set dinner cost $28 + for 2 people that we find that the price is very reasonable.  Since we had not try the food in Fine Cuts, it is worthwhile to mak use of this occassion and try out their food.

FINE CUTS @ CENTRAL CLARKE QUAY

Greeny SALAD

MY MIXED GRILL (PORK)

MEDIUM RAW STEAK

For the price of the set dinner and the ambience of the resturant, i guess it is a good deal for some decent western food. Thank you frog for planning this dinner and we both had our fill for our VALENTINE DaY dinner.

Simple and Cosy!

:)

HAPPY VALENTINE DAY TO ALL!

PORRIDGE FOR THE SICK

I am down with a flu and cough. Poor me.. It is time to built up my immune system and stay healthy for the brand new year. Guess i must be more selective of what i eat too. More vegetables, soupy stuffs, vitamin C and of course more fruits. Less oily and sugary food too. I will to cook more often so that i and frog wont have to eat out too frequent outside which we are quite sick of it.

Porridge for the patient (me)

Pork mince meat plus carrot and canned button slice mushroom. It is very easy to prepare. Just put the ingredients into the rice cooker and select porridge function (if your rice cooker can cook porridge t00) and it will be ready in about 45 mins to an hour time. It is just like cooking rice but with the addition of more water and the ingredients. I  had added two dried scallop for the sweet taste of the porridge too. Yummy and healthy.

Time to eat medicine and take a rest.

Hope that i will have a speedy recovery.

“Nitez everyone!”

KUEH BAULU RECIPE-CHINESE NEW YEAR GOODIES-PART II

My 2nd attempt in baking the Kueh Baulu. Yes this time round, it taste soft and fluffy not as hard as compared to my first attempt. Here is the recipe for baking the all time favourite Chinese new year festive goodies Kueh Baulu.

Ingredients

2 large eggs

60 grams sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

60 grams plain flour

1/4 baking powder

Method:

  1. Put eggs into a mixing bowl. Use high speed to whisk until frothy.
  2. Add in sugar slowly.
  3. Whisk mixture until very light and fluffy for about 20mins
  4. Fold flour slowly into egg mixture in one direction.
  5. Greased the tray with oil using a brush or pandan leave.
  6. Pour into greased trays.
  7. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 200ºC 10/15mins till golden brown. Remove Kueh Baulu from the moulding tray.

I used the pandan leave to brush the moulding tray.

Kueh Baulu moulding tray.

The Kueh Baulu is crispy on the outside and it taste great!

A easy recipe and it is not so time consuming as baking other CNY festive goodies. All time favourite goodies that is simple to bake. Go and try it!

KUEH BAULU RECIPE-CHINESE NEW YEAR GOODIES-PART I

Time really flies and it is the starting of a brand new year. Welcome to 2011 and the first blog post of the year. Christmas had just passed with Chinese New Year in about 4 weeks time. It is time to bake Chinese New Year festive goodies and some recipes with the readers.  This is my blog post last year Jan on Pineapple tart recipe. Will be doing pineapple tarts this year too if time permit.

This is my first attempt in baking Kueh Baulu. Although the ingredients and steps in baking the Kueh Baulu are very simple, my first attempt had failed. The Kueh Baulu tasted rubbery and hard. The Kueh Baulu is not crispy on the outside too. It is difficult removing the Kueh Baulu from the moulding holder. However the appearance of the Kueh Baulu looks good as shown in the picture below.

KUEH BAULU

After troubleshooting what had went wrong, I should not mix the eggs and sugar together at the same time. Instead, the eggs should be mix first and the sugar will be added slower and mix at a high speed. By mixing the egg and sugar together at the same, the mixture seems very thick and viscous and after adding the flour, the mixture had thickened and not smooth.

I shall try again with the correct method. Stay tune in my next post!

HAPPY 2011 to all!

Cheers! :)

POTION CAFE AND BAR – NOSTALGIA HOTEL

I shall continue with my previous posting.

Here we are at the Nostalgia hotel. A quiet and cosy hotel and the staff of the hotel are very friendly too. You need to make reservation and state that you are using the coupon from whatever website. The waitress had directed us to the seat and we had told them that we are using the coupons from liveoffcoupon for the meal. She greeted us warmly and shows us the menu for the set lunch.

These are what we had ordered:

.

.

.

Soup for The Day: Cream of Chicken

 Marinara Spaghetti

Although the serving is small, the quality of the ingredients used and the tasty food compensate for the small serving. Yummy!

 Vanila Ice Cream

This is me enjoying the icecream on a hot sunny weather.

We had enjoyed the food over at potion cafe and bar at such a reasonable price. I had even asked the waitress if we still need to pay for anything after the meal. No hidden charges / GST charges or service charge. It is all inclusive in the coupon that we had paid for earlier on. $30 net for 2 set lunches at a boutique hotel cafe. I guess it is quite worth the price.

Overall View of the Cafe

I will definitely visit the website often and check if there are any good deals around for dinning. It is very worth and value for money!!

GREAT DEALS N OFFER

Frog had recently found some web sites that had many great deals at almost half the price of the original price. It includes dining, travel, spa, facial, exercise and more. For food lover like us, we are of course more interested in dining places at a much cheaper price .

Here is the website that frog bought the coupon to potion cafe and bar at Nostalgia hotel:

http://www.liveoffcoupon.com/

We are contemplating if to purchase the coupon as the deal is really very cheap and we are not sure if it is really true of the price or any other hidden charges. The price for the set lunch and dinner at nostalgia hotel cost $15 net instead of $33. It includes soup of the day, choices of pasta or pizza and finally ended off with dessert (vanilla ice cream).

Frog decided to give it a try and d he had purchase 2 coupons from liveoffcoupon.com at total price of $30 instead of $66. Wow we had a saving of nearly 50%!

Guess there are a lot of coupons website (streetdeal.sg, deal.com.sg and more) where they liaise with the company to offer great deals at their website. I guess there is a minimum amount of people they must hit before the deal is closed. However, due to the cheap prices that they offer, the deal could always hit the target. So cool right.

Shall blog more in the next post to share our dining experiences at potion cafe and bar.

Stay Tune.

TRADITONAL GINGER BREAD MAN COOKIE – CHIRSTMAS COOKIE II

Here is the recipe for the traditional ginger bread man cookies:

310g all purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

1 tsp ground ginger

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp groung cloves

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

110grams sugar

125ml molasses ( a kind of sugarcane syrup; i bought them @ cold storage)

60grams water

1/2 table vanilia extract

Mix butter and sugar and cream them till smooth.

Add in the sugar , molasses, water and vanilla extract and mix them.

Finall add in all the dry ingredients. ( Flour, salt, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg)

Mix into dough and put in the fridge for two hours.

I did not add in the ground cloves as i could not find it in the supermarket. The supermarket only sell the clove itself. Luckily the cookie taste great as well. I feel that adding 60 grams of water is a bit too much as the dough becomes quite watery and this make it diffcult to mould the dough into shapes. Adding 40 grams of water should be sufficient as the molasses itself is in liquid form too. If you are into spices, you can even add more spices into the dough to make the more fragrance! However  the above quantity is just nice for me and the molasses makes the cookie smell very nice too. Yummy!

The ginger bread man

This time round i did not use icing to decorate the cookies. I had used various shapes of edibles decoration to decorate the cookies. It look so much nice! so happy! :)

Go try and make these cookies and i am very sure that your love ones will be very happy to receive them.

Christmas is a time for sharing nice food and present.

Hopefully the receipe is just in time for you reader to bake and share them with your loves ones!
