I am over the moon when Chef Anna, the owner of Sugar Inc, has agreed on my interview and to be published on YummyFoodBook blog. Sugar Inc regularly conducts baking workshops and I have attended their hands-on baking class from Sugar Inc twice and I love how Chef Anna has conducted her classes in a simple and fun way. Her teaching method is systematic and her lessons are conducted on schedule.
1. Which culinary institute have you graduated from?
I took short courses from Baking Industry Training Institute and French Culinary Institute New York. I’m mostly self taught.
2. What is the decision to open up a baking school and why is the school name as Sugar Inc?
Sugar Inc was the brainchild of my husband and I when we were dating. I just wanted a name that was sweet, modern and easy to remember. The baking school idea came about as I am a trained English teacher and I love baking.
3. Are there any difficulties that you have countered during the setting up of Sugar Inc?
The difficulties were to find the right people to join our team, people with a similar work ethic and who believe in the same values of serving customers with our best. Writing new original recipes continue to be a challenge as we try to keep the workshops fresh and interesting.
4. What is the most fulfilling experience as a trainer in Sugar Inc?
Learning more everyday from staff and students. As I teach, I learn too. Improving in my craft as the years pass and helping my customers improve in theirs.
5. Are there any tips or experiences to share for those baking enthusiast whom is thinking of setting up a business in the food & beverages industry?
F&B is for you if you love food and you love feeding people with good food. If you love people it’s a bonus because cooking and baking is about caring about people. Do what you love, do it well, and the money will follow.

Sugar Inc is a baking school located at Block 46, Jln Bukit Ho Swee #01-874. The hands on baking or cake decorating workshops are organised and taught by Chef Anna. All workshops feature Anna Chan’s original, tried and tested recipes, which are designed to help you create delicious and beautiful baked goodies at home.
